Needs

Sijongephambili’s immediate needs are:

  1. An improved education program – Babble and Krabble a pre-school situated in Melkbosstrand has generously purchased and donated the standard curriculum as specified by the government- books have been donated which cover learning between the ages of 2-6.  The school now has material which they can use to ensure the children are being taught what they need to know in their age group and are given equal opportunities as other private and government schools throughout South Africa have. This will offer them a sound foundation in their educational careers.  Lizzie has 2 teachers who work with her but their only qualifications are matric- they are eager and enthusiastic and were delighted with the guideline books, however a great need would be for them to receive some kind of training or guidance on how best to care for and educate these children.

 

 

  1. Sanitation and ablution blocks – the most basic of needs has not been met at this school and the school requires any kind of donation or materials where we can put doors on the cubicles and install flushing toilets.

 

 

  1. Playground – Vital in the development and muscle co-ordination of a child’s body as well as the gift of play in any child’s life is a playground!  We are looking for sponsors to donate any building materials so that we can build them the following:
  • Sandpit
  • Swings
  • Jungle Gym

Once we have the building materials Lwandle’s community is going to get involved and we are going to build a playground for the children of Sijongephambili

 

 

  1. Food Scheme – With 65 children to feed daily a sustainable food scheme is required.  Currently the school has a spinach garden which the community helped to plant and the government has given the school a grant of R4170.00 per month to feed the children. However with 65 mouths to feed this is not adequate. The school thus requires either weekly or monthly donations of food or seedlings to grow more vegetables in their garden.

 

 

The only other income which Sijongephambili receives is R60 per month for the baby’s school fees and R40 per month for the pre- schoolers.  With this Lizzie has to pay her lease for the land, water, teachers and herself an income of some sort. Alternative income streams are thus also required. Ideas are welcome on how additional revenue streams can be generated.
